A love of spicy food caused Gary to always be carrying a bottle of chili sauce in his pocket for many years and when we met Anna simply had to get used to living with a little more heat than she was used to. The family consisting of Gary and Anna Mathers and our two children used to live in Switzerland but moved to Gotland in 2011 to start a new life in the countryside and have more time together. For several years we nurtured a relatively vague dream of growing chili on a large scale and decided, in connection with the move, to make a serious attempt.
IN 2012 WE SOW THE SEED FOR ÖVERSTEKVARN
“We are a typical family business. But the fact that we grow and refine chili is perhaps not as typical. The first greenhouse tunnel was completed in 2012 and there we sowed a wide range of different chili varieties, mostly because we were curious about how they would get on, but above all because chili has such a diversity of flavors and characters. Since then, we have continuously developed Överstekvarn with new plants, products and built our own farm shop. Today we sell our products on Gotland as well as on the mainland. You can now find us in stores in Stockholm and Mälardalen”

At overstekvarn.se you can shop for all our products, it is both simple and convenient. But if you are passing by, we would love for you to stop off and visit us at Överstekvarn. We are happy to tell you more about how we create our flavors and what locally grown means to us here on Gotland.
On the farm we have 2 x 24KW car chargers for you to top up your electric vehicle during your visit, powered from our solar panels.
